Internal Collapse

Internal Collapse

About the photo

This image continues the exploration of the body in relation to confinement, but with a deeper sense of inward withdrawal. The figure is tightly folded into itself, forming a compact, almost closed structure that resists expansion. Unlike earlier compositions, where the body interacts with space, here it retreats from it.

The surrounding rock dominates the frame, acting not only as an environment but as a boundary. The scale difference reinforces a feeling of insignificance, where the human form becomes secondary to the permanence of the landscape. The positioning within a recessed area intensifies the sense of enclosure, suggesting a space that both contains and isolates.

The monochrome treatment sharpens the contrast between textures, emphasizing the raw surface of stone against the smooth continuity of the body. Light is unevenly distributed, creating zones of visibility and obscurity that fragment the perception of the subject.

Conceptually, the piece reflects a moment of internal collapse — not as destruction, but as contraction. It represents a state where energy is no longer directed outward, but pulled inward, forming a contained and self-protected presence within an indifferent environment.
